In the 14th century the area known today as Fallowfield was at that time referred to as Fallafield, and was in fact named after a landowner from the area. Fallowfield is a suburb of Manchester and is probably best known as being home to the Manchester Grammar School, originally situated in Long Millgate, in the 1930â€™s it was relocated to its present site on Old Hall Lane. Throughout the 19th century Fallowfield managed to escape the worst of the industrialization that was marching through Manchester, however because it was mainly an agricultural area it did attract the middle classes from Manchester who built many fine houses in the area.
