Witney is a thriving market town in West Oxfordshire, world famous for its blankets. The Bishop's Palace site situated near to the Church on Church Green dates from the 12th century. The archaeological remains of the great hall and other features were discovered in the early 1980s and are now exposed under a modern roof. The Woolgate shopping centre can be found just off High Street. Corn Street in the town centre has many independent shops, food outlets and public houses such as The Chequers and The Butchers Arms.
