The West End - central London's great entertainment area - is a loosely defined district west of the City. To most people, however, the West End means the bright lights of theatreland, the shopping paradise in and around Bond Street, Regent Street and Oxford Street, the glittering nightlife of Leicester Square, the atmospheric markets, restaurants, bars and clubs of Soho and Covent Garden, and the colour of Chinatown. Visitors wishing to enjoy the traditional London treat of dinner and a West End show are literally spoilt for choice, with many grand theatres presenting musicals and mainstream dramas, famously in Shaftesbury Avenue, Drury Lane and The Strand.
