Nestling in the rolling countryside between the counties of Staffordshire and Derbyshire the village of Tutbury is actually in the county of Staffordshire, just south of the River Dove. Tutbury is probably most famous for its castle overlooking the river, tracing its history back to the Iron Age it is believed that the present castle is located over an Iron Age fort. Today much of the castle is in ruins but worth visiting this castle that once was home to Mary Queen of Scots – actually home is wrong as Mary was actually imprisoned here.
