Strontian is the main village with the districts of Ardgour and Morvern in Sunart, Lochaber in the west Highland region of Scotland. Strontian is situated on an inlet at the head of the sea-loch, Loch Sunart and is dominated by the Beinn Resipol Mountain, standing 845m high. The village was established to accommodate the Lead Mine workers in 1724.The lead mined here was used as a source for bullets during the Napoleonic Wars. A new element was discovered here in 1764 named Strontium after its place of origin; Strontium salts are used to make fireworks burn red.
