St.John’s Chapel is a small village in County Durham, situated in Weardale on the south side of the river Wear on the A689 road between Ireshopeburn and Daddry Shield. It has a population of around 450 of which only a few are children. Due to that disparity, the village has become marginal in terms of its threshold for service provision, with schools, swimming pools and libraries some distance away. Originally a medieval hunting stop for the North Pennines, St.John’s Chapel grew as a centre for lead mining after 1600.
