The village of Selborne is located in Hampshire and is famous because of one Gilbert White, an 18th century naturalist who wrote “The Natural History of Selborne†in which he recorded his observations on local animals and wildlife. Today Gilbert White’s house and gardens are open to the public and provide an interesting insight into the character of the man. Within the house can also be seen the Oates Museum, this is dedicated to Captain Lawrence Oates who was part of that fateful polar expedition lad by Captain Scott.
