Sampford Courtenay is a hushed village on the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park in Devon, with a clutch of beautiful cob and thatched cottages found in the narrow lanes. Five Medieval stone crosses mark the way into the village, leading to the square where the 15th Century Church of St Andrews dominates the scene, Step over the Artists if visiting during the Summer months as the explosion of colour in the tapestry of flowers are rarely beaten. Famed for it’s bravery of the ‘Prayer Book Uprising’ in 1549, the area is steeped in history, now home to just over five hundred people.
