To many people Old Trafford represents Manchester United Football Club known as the Theatre of Dreams (capacity 76,000), for others though it represents Lancashire County Cricket Club (capacity 19,000) in fact Old Trafford, in the Trafford Borough of the City of Manchester, represents both of these and more. The Trafford area was once owned by one of the most prominent Catholic families of Victorian times – the Traffords, it was they who, it is believed, built two halls here, Old Trafford Hall and New Trafford Hall – neither of which exist today but the name of Old Trafford survived and lives on.
