Newtonmore is a traditional Scottish village in the Badenoch area at the south end of Strathspey in the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands of Scotland, situated 46 miles from Fort William to the west and 46 miles from Inverness to the north. During the Highland Clearances c1800 families were evicted from their homes in the central Highlands to make room for sheep, the Spey Bridge had been built in 1756 nearby with a road network and by 1828 the new settlement of Newtonmore (new big town on the moor) was in existence.
