Milton Abbas is a village in Dorset in the south-west of England, approximately seven miles south-west of the market town of Blandford Forum and 11 miles north-east of Dorchester. The attractive village of Milton Abbas holds the distinction of being the first planned settlement in England. Milton Abbas features on many picture postcards of rural Dorset. It was founded in 1780 when Joseph Damer (Lord Milton, later Earl of Dorchester) decided that the old village of Middleton ruined the view from his new mansion at Milton Abbey.
