The ancient seaport and historic market town of Lymington was once of greater importance than Portsmouth and played a major part in defending the south coast against the French invasion. The cobbled streets of the old town lead to a High Street where shopping is a real pleasure and you can relax afterwards in one of the traditional tea shops, pubs or restaurants. The narrow streets are lined with pretty period cottages and houses. There are some great walks along the tidal salt marshes, which are designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and make up ten miles of nature reserve.
