The history of the town goes back to the Iron Age and Dinas Bran Castle through the Dark Ages and the legend of King Arthur â€“ close to the canal towpath is the remains of a stone cross and the earliest recorded name for this cross is Croes Gwenhwyfar and Gwenhwyfar is the original Welsh name of Gueinevere, wife of King Arthur.
