Lairg is a small rural village in central Sutherland in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, situated north of Inverness. Archaeological studies have found evidence Lairg was inhabited 5-6000 years ago with the discovery of Cairns and stone burial tombs built by stone-age farmers. In 1807 Lairg was one of the first villages to suffer from the Highland Clearances, where people were evicted from the land to make room for sheep. The railway arrived at Lairg in the 1800’s, still in operation, the railway line runs from Inverness to Thurso.
