History tells us that Hyde built its fortune during the boom era of the Industrial Revolution (1790 -1869) when the cotton trade and coal mining was at its height in the area, indeed Hyde’s coat of arms include a cotton pattern and shuttle and as testament to the contribution made by the coal miners the coat of arms shows a miners axe and a Davy lamp. It is from this industrial heritage that Hyde grew into the town that it is today, the wealth brought into the area also brought social unrest but towards the end of the 19th century the future of Hyde was looking brighter, indeed Hyde by this time now had its own railway station – an indication of how important Hyde was becoming within the socio economic structure of Manchester.
