The village of Horning, stretching for a mile along the north bank of the Bure, is all about the water and its pursuits. The very name of the village means high ground between the rivers – the Ant is a mile or so to the east. Early June sees the annual Three Rivers Race, taking in the Thurne as well as the Bure and Ant. But that hectic event is somewhat out of character for what is a wonderfully quiet English waterside settlement, with its thatched cottages and flint walls. Just ten miles north east of Norwich, and easy to reach by car or by boat, Horning is one of the most popular venues in the Broads itinerary, and not only because of the big boatyard.
