Havant, a suburb of Portsmouth, is the town and district within Hampshire in the southeastern part of the county. Home to over 45,000, the boroughâ€™s population is over 117,000 and includes Waterlooville, called after the troops returning from the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The town, severely depleted in 1760 by a fire, (only a pair of 16th and 17th century cottages forming the Old House at Home pub and parts of St Faithâ€™s church dating back to the 13th century remain), is modern in architecture and accommodates the overspill of homes and factories of light engineering from nearby Portsmouth.
