Between Luton and St Albans is Harpenden - a charming and traditional town. It has a village feel but all the conveniences of the town of nearly 30,000 that it is! Property costs here are high due to itâ€™s strong transport links with the M1 and Luton Airport close by, being on average 25% higher than London 30 miles away. Historically a farming and agricultural community, Harpenden grew with the arrival of the high-speed rail link to London. There are many listed buildings and the whole town centre is a conservation area, with the famous Rothamsted Experimental Station where agricultural research takes place.
