Gretna Green is a small village in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland situated at the head of the Solway Firth adjacent to the village of Gretna and one mile north-west from the Border with England. Gretna Green is famous for being the â€˜marriage capital of the UKâ€™, where under Scottish Law couples are able to marry at age16 without parental consent. Gretna Green is a popular tourist destination, with 4000 marriages taking place each year at the Blacksmithâ€™s Shop, in the village and at the registry office in neighbouring Gretna.
