Garforth is a sizeable town â€“ its population nearing 24,000 at the 2001 census â€“ roughly in the centre of a triangle formed by Leeds to the west, Tadcaster the north east, and Castleford the south east. It is now part of the metropolitan district of the booming city of Leeds. Though coal-mining was for centuries the major local industry, those days have gone, and residents of the town are now likely to work in the service industries centred on Leeds or in manufacturing in Garforth itself.
