Fishguard, on the A487 between St Davidâ€™s and Cardigan, is split into upper and lower towns. The upper contains the commercial centre with shops and hotels whilst the lower,nestling at the mouth of the Gwaun valley, is a fishing port with tidal quay. Fishguard hosts a lively annual folk music festival and for more Celtic connections, Strumble Head is the closest point to the Irish coast. Fishguard Harbour (confusingly nor actually in Fishguard but a mile away at Goodwick) is a major ferry port with high-speed catamaran crossings to Rosslare.
