"The Garden Resort of the East Coast " is a Victorian/Edwardian seaside town that has retained its charm over the ages. The seafront is over 4 miles long, with an excellent paved promenade level with the sand and shingle beach for most of the 4 miles. In May, there is an annual Drama Festival, in the Spa Pavilion Theatre, which has a wide variety of shows throughout the year, catering for all tastes from ballet to pop. There is also a local history museum, and Landguard Fort, the scene of the last invasion of England in 1667.
