The tiny village of Elton lies in what used to be Huntingdonshire, but is now part of Cambridgeshire. It is situated on the B671 road, about eight miles south west of Peterborough. The hamlet of Over End is located a mile south of the village, on the same road. Elton is two miles away from Fotheringay, where Mary Queen of Scots was beheaded. It is also five miles away from Oundle, a historic market town which features the Talbot Inn. The Talbot Inn was built from the stones of the ruined Fotheringay Castle and features a wooden stairway taken from the castle.
