Elie is situated on the southern side of the East Neuk, between Lower Largo and St. Monans. The former royal burgh comprises of Elie and its twin town Earlsferry, the two formerly merged in 1929. Originally a fishing village Elie is now a small holiday resort popular with golfers, sailors and surfers. The High Street contains various shops, restaurants and pubs, including the Ship Inn famous for playing cricket on the beach. The Parish Church on the High Street dates back to 1639, the clock tower only has three faces as there were no buildings to the rear at the time.
