Rich in history, East Tytherley, the smallest village in the Test Valley, was given to Queen Philippa in 1335 by her husband Edward III, the Black Death in London prompting the queen to decamp to the village with her court. The rambling parish of 2,634 acres is crossed to the north by the Roman Road from Winchester to Old Sarum, the parish’s old English name meaning a 'little place with water and pasturage.’ The 12th century church, St Peters, with its 200 year old yew tree, still has its 13th century glass-stained windows.
