Cupar is a busy market town and former Royal Burgh in Fife, situated on the East coast railway line between the larger towns Dundee and Glenrothes. Cupar was established as a Royal Burgh by David II of Scotland in 1363 and was the location of the castles of the Mac Duffs, Thanes of Fife featured in Shakespeare’s play Macbeth. The town has many architecturally interesting buildings including the neo-gothic St. James Church (1866) and the Burgh Chambers with its grand neo-classical terrace, crowned with dome and clock cupola in 1819.
