Clitheroe itself is situated in Lancashire, on the southern edge of the
Yorkshire Dales, and is well signposted from the A59. A popular base for
tourists visiting the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known as the Forest
of Bowland.
To the north is Skipton, known as the gateway to the Dales, there is a
traditional street market and it's well worth finding the small shop selling
pork pies (it's down by the canal near the church - look for the queues).
In the opposite direction on the A59, lies Preston, a pleasant enough town
with some major stores and a small 'mall' development.
