Some Chandlers Ford Cottages

Chandlers Ford lies 7 miles south west of Winchester and 5 miles north east of Southampton. The area was once covered in woodland, heathland and water meadows, criss-crossed by many rivers and streams that drain into the Solent. As the woodlands were cleared farms developed joined by trackways, including an old Roman road which connected Winchester with Nursling (north of Southampton), that crossed these streams by fords, hence the last part of the town`s name; who Chandler was is still a mystery. The old Winchester road has now been superseded by the M3 which runs a little to the east.
