Catford is a busy shopping district in south-east London, soon to be regenerated. It's named after the wildcats believed to have roamed the land in ancient times, and the enormous, sculpted figure of a cat peers down from the sign above Catford Centre, a small shopping mall. The cat is one of the area's most unusual landmarks, the other being an Oliver Barratt sculpture called The Water Line, a mass of twisty blue steel pipes located outside Eros House. More traditional is the Grade II-listed Broadway Theatre, with its green spire and exceptional art-deco interior.
