The motto on Broadstairs' town crest - stella maris - means star of the sea, and it's an apt description. One of several seaside towns on the protruding coastline of the Isle of Thanet, Broadstairs has a warmer, prettier personality than Margate and Ramsgate, its larger neighbours on either side. Part of the appeal lies in the town's buildings, which range from Regency-style houses to small flint dwellings and fishermen's cottages. Visitors also enjoy exploring the pleasant streets and alleyways filled with intriguing little shops.
