Nestling in the heart of Cheshire Beeston is probably most famous for its castle located high up on a sandstone outcrop some 400 feet high up overlooking the Cheshire Plains with views across the Wirral and Liverpool. Originally a hillside fort from the Bronze Age traces of this early use is still in evidence today. Work on the Castle wasn’t until started until 1226 and for around 400 years it was used as a castle defending England. It was also rumored to house a vast treasure hidden within it by Richard II.
