Banknock is a small village in the Falkirk region of Scotland situated on the road between Bonnybridge and Kilsyth, close to the village of Haggs on the Bonny Water north of the River Forth and the Clyde Canal. Banknock was originally known as Balinknock meaning ‘township of the hillock’ and dates back to c1450, when the lands belonged to the feuding Fleming family. Banknock grew during the 18th and 19th century as a busy coal mining village and was noted for its whiskey production until 1928 with the closure of the Bankier Distillery.
