The ancient parish of Alyth is in the Perth and Kinross area of Scotland situated 11 miles west of Kirriemuir in Angus and 5 miles north-east of Blairgowrie on the southern slopes of the hills of the Forest of Alyth. The small burgh dates back to c1100 although possibly earlier as the remains of a large vitrified fort on Barry Hill are believed to be the place where Queen Guinevere was imprisoned by the Pictish King Mordred. Alyth was an important market town by 1760, when the Losset Inn was built, and the town was hosting several fairs every year.
