Abbots Langley is a large village in the county of Hertfordshire, and is home to over ten thousand people. The village roots date as far back as Saxon times and beyond. It's positioned close to the Colne River and is just five miles or so from Watford. There are attractive houses and cottages, and a selection of shops for the everyday essential purchase. There is a delightful church with an impressive 12th Century tower, and Norman arches, which is dedicated to St Lawrence the Martyr. The village is perhaps best renowned for being the birthplace of the only English man to become Pope, when Nicholas Breakspear was elected in the 12th Century.
